We are posting those player names here that have contacted IBA to let us know they are safe and sound. I am placing this particular player reply at the top of this page so that there will hopefully be no player that does not see my response. NorthernJoy, IBA Director No-one cared when the USA was bombing Yugoslavia illegally, without
the backing of the UN and the Security council and killing innocent civilians.
No-one reacted to the USA bombing of Iraq, Sudan to name a few recent murdering
campaigns by Americans. I wont even go into the two Atomic slaughters of Japanese by
Americans in 1945. Why should I, or any one else grieve and refuse to play backgammon
when an exstremely hostile nation gets a taste of its own medication? Director’s Message: The most difficult challenge IBA’s hosts and players will face when IBA’s events resume is not taking any comments along these lines personally. With that said, I am taking a very deep breath and encouraging you to read this very carefully. I created IBA’s little corner of the world for several reasons. I have traveled many of the back roads of this world. I have a deep global sense and a belief in the good of mankind. I also have a love for the game of backgammon and want to be a part of bringing back it’s popularity. I had some time on my hands and challenged myself to create professionally run, family-style events for players around the world. From Day 1, IBA has been proud of setting high standards for our mission. Any player from any where has been welcome to participate in our events. IBA has never turned a player away as long as they showed respect for each other and the hosts who volunteer their time to the participants. IBA has been under my direction for nearly two years now. Those that have come to know me realize that I am a friendly, welcoming, caring person who does not tolerate nonsense. Please read this statement closely.

| _tourneygirl | You posed a tough question… what is good for some may not be good for others. The tragedy has affected the world and there are people from all over the world who play at IBA…. I’m sure you will get very varied responses. I don’t think I can take a vote either way because I didn’t lose a loved one in this tragedy, even though my heart goes out to those who have. Some people need the distraction to help them get through, and some people need to see people they know regularly (as Iba) in order to help them, and others probably can’t even think about playing bg…..so my answer to this tough question would be……….. whomever it helps the most. |

you’re also ready to…in the meantime there has been an awful lot of speculation on the
players parts…"have you heard when the tourneys will be starting up
again?"….I’ve encountered this more so over the weekend now…I think it’s time
for the healing to really begin within the IBA family…and for so many players to be
back in the familiar surroundings with friends will be a big comfort. We all need that right now. I’d also like to think we can all be adult enough to behave in the tourneys and in the lobby. I suppose there will always be someone there to give the host and players grief…but we can’t let one or two (hopefully no more than that) take over and ruin our fun. It would be like giving into a terrorist. I’ll do my part in trying to make everything go as smoothly as possible. Thankyou for giving us a voice in this…my thoughts and prayers are with you all. |

But IBA has become like a family so many of us and I think its healthy for all of us to be united again. | MyTourneyShirt | I think it is time to return, yes. Just to do something regular and normal. It does not mean that we don’t care or still feel the weight of the dreadful trouble now upon us. I know that I for one, will rejoice in seeing familiar names, both players and staff, and be able to play again. I do, however, feel that IBA should initiate a very definite line about political commentary. None (NONE) tolerated that is abusive, argumentative, abrasive, instigates rumbles etc. I know that will be tough, but otherwise it could just get ugly. Most of the negativity will be born of frustration, and even mild-tempered individuals could have a hard time not jumping in, so I think zero tolerance is in order. It does no good anyway, to bash and call names, it’s unproductive and just creates more bad feeling. We have way more than we need already. I do believe positive commentary has a place, we need to be happy for little blessings, and as far as discussion about news of an uplifting nature, I think we all need that. The problem is….discerning where the line is. Your good judgment in establishing IBA’s policy in regards to the family atmosphere I trust will be carried forward in this matter. I vote to reconvene the regular IBA schedule. |

| Armed4fun | I think it is fine for you to resume your regular schedule. For a lot of people who are house bound this is the only form of social contact they have. They need to get back in familiar surroundings with people they consider to be friends. Even Mayor Juliano stressed how important it was to try to get back to some kind of normalcy. |

Having been raised in NY and having family and friends there, this last week has been nerve racking. My most immediate contacts are all accounted for and safe. However, even before learning of all I was ready to resume play. The longer we stay out of our regular patterns, the more the bastards accomplish. Looking forward to resuming normal life, I remain an IBA faithful…. |

I for one am tired of turning on the tv and crying all day. It’s heart breaking and very scary. May I also suggest that maybe for awhile there be at least 2 people hosting. Intern and Host. I think it would help relieve some of the pressure off one person trying to control the whole event. Especially if IBA feels there may be potential problems. I realize there are some who are on edge a great deal. And it is not fair to those who want to start rebuilding and moving on with life. Not that we don’t care, or our hearts aren’t breaking as much as anyone else. But life does go on and we can not mourn forever. |

| NotEvenForYou | Knowing there is a lot of hurt out there from the WTC & all, I personally feel that everyone should try to get on with their lives. There is no comfort on dwelling on a sad time in our lives and the lives of the ones we care about. IBA being a closely knit "family" needs to be the distraction for all of those in mourning, making it possible to get in touch with everyone that was there before the tragedy and those after the tragedy. IBA needs to get on with life making it as comfortable as possible for those who lost their loved ones. Prolonging the return of players will not accomplish anything. God speed. |

I also volunteered my time to help with the relief efforts. And all the stations in this area Radio and TV have on is about the attack. I was hoping that their would be Football or Baseball this weekend as a distraction. Not to take anything away from the efforts at the Trades but you get tired of hearing about death and destruction especially here in NYC. So I hope the games resume soon and all of us can get back to some semblance of our previous lives and activities. This has been a terrible time in all our lives but we must move on but never forget what has happened. God Bless All and God Bless America. |

Over the weekend, when I couldn’t watch another minute of this on TV, I did go to the IBA room, and just watched a league match to be distracted for a while. The people I know that were involved in this horror are safe, But, there are friends and relatives of friends that have disappeared without a trace. I have been watching the news for 24 hrs a day – crying all the time. I could not go online, could not open my email or land mail, or even leave the house. Guilt? Grief? Probably both. On Saturday I ventured on to the internet for a few moments of release. Even though I did not chat myself, if someone would mention the tragedy, I left. However, some of it must have worked for me – I only cry half the time now. Your phrase "positive distraction" is more than that. We cannot heal without some sort of stability – no matter where we find it. IBA represents a kind of stability. The same tourneys at the same times of the week. The interminable rules given at the same minutes before the Start. Even the hosts with the same familiar names. Please come back. |
